The Mercer County Civic Foundation has awarded grants to three Our Home Family Resource Center programs: Direct Services & Referral, RAFT Supervised Visitation Center, and Family Crisis Network. In each case, the funds will help Our Home respond to the needs of our Mercer County neighbors during times of frustration, fear, separation, or insecurity.
For example, funds awarded to Direct Services Program will support efforts toward providing individuals and families in Mercer County with emergency financial assistance. Over the past year, Our Home’s Direct Services staff responded to nearly 1900 requests for assistance with food, medical expenses, utility bills, rent, food, home repairs, and transportation and distributed tens of thousands of dollars to local families in need.
The Family Crisis Network funding will be directed to provision of services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault here in Mercer County. Over the past year, we provided 1287 bednights of safe shelter for victims fleeing domestic violence (and their children), fielded over 1100 calls on the 24-hour Helpline, received 57 crisis calls from individuals seeking help, and engaged in 554 individual peer-counseling sessions. We also served as advocate for survivors in 80 civil/criminal justice proceedings, providing support for them during a very stressful, frightening time.
And, the RAFT Visitation Center grant will support monitoring of children’s visits with their non-custodial parents. Staff facilitated 363 of these family visits this year. That accounts for 734 hours of safe, healthy interaction between children and the parents that they’d either been separated from or had never met. Some families meet at the Center for only a few weeks or months, others will require our services for longer periods of time – none of these visits would have happened, however, had it not been for the Center.
We are extremely grateful to the Civic Foundation Board for these grants, and for the support of Our Home’s programs, projects, and services they represent.
