Our Home Family Resource Center received word that the Raft Supervised Visitation Center and Mercer County Angel Tree project have received grants from Mercer County Fatherhood Initiative (Mercer Dads Fund). The funds available from Mercer Dads are directed to programs and projects that benefit fathers in Mercer County.
The funds received for the RAFT Center will help make supervised visitation accessible to low income, non-custodial fathers by subsidizing a portion of their fees. We have seen the need for supervised visitation services increase as the grip of opioids has taken a toll on families in Mercer County – landing a growing number of children in foster care. Supervised visitation is extremely important in these instances because it offers space for healing and recovery of families affected by this epidemic and a bridge to unsupervised engagement that supports a life-long bond between father (or mother) and child.
Mercer County Angel Tree committee will use the funds from their grant to provide items to families receiving gifts through the Mercer County Angel Tree program. This program is a county-wide initiative, designed to provide Christmas gifts to children in low-income households. For folks living on a budget already stretched thin to cover essential needs such as rent/mortgage, utilities, and childcare it can be extremely challenging to scrape together the funds needed to provide Christmas for their children. The funds from Mercer Dads will lighten the load and brighten the holiday for many families, including single dads.
We are extremely grateful to Mercer County Fatherhood Initiative for these grants, and for the support of Our Home’s programs and services they represent.
