How Can We Affect Positive Change in Mercer County?
We can begin by engaging in Our Home Family Resource Center’s upcoming “Poverty Simulation”… A unique and powerful experience designed to challenge perceptions, change perspectives, and strengthen understanding and empathy.
You are invited to take a bold step: put yourself in the shoes of someone living in poverty, experience what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive month-to-month, discover that you may not have enough income to meet your basic needs.
In this workshop, you will experience the full range of encounters, obstacles, and challenges that our low income neighbors face. Participants will be assigned a specific role and identity for the simulation. This identity will be based upon a real person living in poverty, and you will interact and engage with volunteers serving as business owners, employers, educators, police officers, agency workers, service providers, and government employees.
This “Poverty Simulation” will be facilitated by West Ohio Food Bank and is intended to prompt us to think about the harsh realities of poverty and to talk about how Mercer County’s agencies, business, and organizations can work together to affect positive outcomes for the residents of our communities!
