Just in time for the wintry weather, local families in need of outer wear items to see them through the cold were able to acquire them. On Saturday morning, November 1, 94 families selected a total of 304 winter coats at our Winter Warmth Coat Day. We also distributed over 1000 other necessary items like gloves, hats, scarves, and socks. All the items were free of charge, donated by generous people throughout Mercer County at churches and businesses and through community organizations.
The annual Coat Day event is sponsored by OUR Home and the Celina Kiwanis Club and is supported by volunteers who sorted and hung the coats. Besides all the donations we received, many other individuals and groups pitched in to provide locations for coat collections, transportation and storage of coats, a store to use for the event, tables and racks to display items, and cleaning and repair of coats where needed.
Thanks to everyone involved! Special thanks to Stacey Brunswick and Joyce Jansen, who coordinated the project on behalf of the Kiwanis.
